Russia
I Adrian Spencer have travelled to Russia twice in the last 12 months on trade missions. Ironbark has sent around 450 heifers over the last few years to Russia. The market is in the development stage there are huge tracks of rural land in Russia with nothing on it. The potential for beef cattle is enormous. The beef industry has to be virtually built from the ground up being knowledge and infrastructure that includes everything from fencing, sheds, cattle yards and abattoirs; the whole thing virtually has to start from scratch. As far as cattle country is concerned water is plentiful, the soil is rich. The potential is far reaching. If the market is handled correctly I see potential for Australian beef producers being Hereford and Angus into the foreseeable future could be 15 to 20 years. If you click on the links below to the Landline website you can see the potential for yourself. 60,000 tons of beef were shipped into Russia between April and September 2008. The head of the Russian meat association attended the MLA conference in Orange in November.
