A Remarkable Story!

Doris C005 was born on 3rd January 2007. Her sire is the Canadian bull, HH Homebuilder 603 who's semen we imported into Australia. Her mother INB Q171 Doris S333 is bred from a long line of Doris cows. The original INB Doris was born in 1936 and she's registered in the Stud Book of Herefords Australia. 

This year Doris C005 is 14 yrs old. 

By the end of 2017 one of the worst droughts on record had started to take hold across our part of Northern NSW. By 2018 we were well and truly in a cycle of dust strorms, checking waters and feeding cattle. 2019 was the driest we've ever known it. There was just no respite for farmers. Eventually rain came in January 2020. Doris C005 was in a paddock of about 70 other cows all fighting for their meger daily feed ration. She was an old cow at 12 yrs old. Like all droughts, some livestock don't make it through to the other side, but this is Doris C005's remarkable story.

Doris C005 has produced 10 live calves. 

Her first calf was born in Feb 2009 when Doris C005 was a 2 year old heifer.

Since then she has given birth every year to a live calf, except 2014 and 2020 the year the drought broke. In 2018, she had a live calf in Feburary 2018 and then concieved immediately and had another live calf in December 2018!

Doris C005 not only had the strength and fortitude to live through the drought when she was an old cow. She also conceived, gave birth and produced enough milk to rear her calf in one of the worst droughts on record. She is simply quite amazing.

Doris C005 will calve down her 11th calf in January 2022 and will raise her calf with her usual abundance of milk with her udder and teats that are as neat as when she was a heifer.
